Riders qualify for the 4x Pro Tour
COMMEZZADURA (TRENTINO, ITALY), 01 JUNE 2012 - Racers took to the slopes above Commezzedura this evening to fight for a spot in tomorrow’s round three of the 4X Pro Tour.
In the men’s competition, 64 riders went through to the final. Thomas Slavik (Czech Republic) grabbed the top spot and first choice of starting gate when the racing starts. In 4X this is incredibly important as the best gate increases your chances of getting the line you want into the all-important first corner. He edged out his nearest competitor, defending 4X World Champion, Michal Prokop (Czech Republic), by just 0.07 of a second. Longtime 4X stalwart, Scott Beaumont (Great Britain), grabbed the third spot. Jakub Riha (Czech Republic) stunned everyone at round one of the series, taking the top spot in qualification and backed that up with a solid ninth today. Freeride superstar, Martin Soderstrom (Sweden), a talented rider who rarely races, was the surprise of the day, narrowly missing out on a time that would have put him in the top 20.
In the women’s competition, Katy Curd (Great Britain) looks to be healing well from her horrific broken arm, which she suffered racing downhill last year, and took first place. Celine Gros (France) is one of the few riders who will be racing both 4X and downhill this weekend and only missed out on the fastest time by 0.38 of a second. Last year’s 4X World Champion and winner of round one, Anneke Beerten (Netherlands) could only manage third today, but expect her to be strong in racing tomorrow.
This evening Red Bull will be screening the Italian premier of the new mountain bike film, Strength in Numbers. A long-term project by Anthill Films, the feature length film explores the diversity of mountain biking across the world.Contatti
